Arrowsmith Lodge is a long-term care home located in Parksville, BC. After visiting the home, Danica Nenninger and myself were tasked with redesigning certain areas.
After visiting Arrowsmith Lodge and getting a tour of the facility, we were tasked with redesigning three key public areas of the facility:
The Reception + Waiting Area
This space needed a general refresh, and wheelchair storage for the residents.
The Salon
This space was under utilized, and needed another purpose other than a hair salon when it wasn't in use.
The Activities Room
This space was dated and in need of new solutions to make it flexible for various programming needs.
Making the space feel like a home was a key driving factor of the design, along with meeting accessibility and healthcare requirements. Because the facility is a not-for-profit, the design incorporates elements that can be added in stages, and the overall design can be easily made to be cohesive with the rest of the building to prevent resident confusion.
